This time, we’ve invited to acts who are pushing the boundaries of their respective genres: Me & the Monster will showcase their progressive indie rock and Yetundey will destroy any boarders with her explosive rap show.

Yetundey

Yetundey is a female german rapper with a multicultural background. Her music aims to increase social awareness through humour and satire. Serious topics — easily digestible. Yetundey plays with words, occasionally pushing it close to the edge of political correctness but only to sarcastically mirror and evaluate current events, trends and inequity like racial issues within our modern society. Together with her band, she incorporates musical influences and styles from around the world such as Asia, America, Africa and Europe.

Me & the Monster

Me & The Monster is an up and coming progressive indie band which wants to start a revolution to turn on the existing conventional indie music scene in Berlin. The music of the four Monsters is influenced by musicians and bands such as Tash Sultana, alt-J and Arcade Fire. Sonars sind ein Electro-Psych-Duo aus Brighton/UK und Bergamo/IT. In ihrer sphärischen und psychedelischen Version elektronischer Musik mäandern Frederick Paysden und Serena Oldrati zwischen Synthesizern, Gitarre, Bass und Keyboard. Mit Drum Machines und Loop Stations kreieren die zwei Musiker einen atmosphärisch dichten Sound und schicken alle Zuhörer auf eine kosmische Reise. Obwohl sich Sonars auch als elektronische Band begreifen liegen ihre Wurzeln in psychedelischer Rockmusik aus den 60ern und 70ern. Das beste aus zwei Welten eben. Absolutes Knallerkonzert!

Lopenstraat ist ein Instrumental-Sextett aus Istanbul.
Im Spektrum von Anatolian Psychedelia bis zu freier Improvisation in den jüngsten Auftritten versuchen Lopenstraat die Elemente progressiven, experimentellen und anatolischem Rock in ihrer Musik zu vermischen.

Nachdem sie es einmal geschafft hatten, die Songs aus ihren Improvisations-Sessions zu reproduzieren, veröffentlichten sie im Sommer 2015 ihre erste Single „Hike“. „Hike“ war als letzter Song auf der Compilation „The New Generation Of Turkish Psychedelic Volume I“ von Ironhead Records enthalten. Nach der Veröffentlichung ihrer ersten EP „Şile“, erschienen auf Personal Space Records im Oktober 2016, begannen sie, ihre Live-Auftritte intensiv auf experimentelle Elemente aufzubauen, was im Mai 2017 die Veröffentlichung ihrer live aufgenommenen zweiten EP „Rönesans“ befeuerte.

Im Zentrum der Live-Session steht das Bandprojekt Schlafwagen, das sich unter dem Motto Electro Organic Vibes zusammenfindet. Schlafwagen ist ein Band-Projekt des US-Amerikaners Alex Baboian und des Japaners Chikara Aoshima, gemeinsam mit Bassist Johannes Heger und Perkussionist ​Marcel​l​.
Getroffen haben sich Alex und Chikara a​m renomierten Berklee College of Music in Boston​/USA​. Seither entwickeln sie gemeinsam Tracks, die akustische und elektronische Grenzen auflösen lassen. „Botticelli Baby“ machen handgemachte Swingmusik mit Punkattitüde.
Die sieben Charakterköpfe entwickelten einen Stil fernab des Mainstream mit einer Energie, die bis jetzt noch jeden gepackt hat. Von vielen Einflüssen gespeist ergibt sich eine Melange aus dem Zigeunerjazz Django Reinhardts, dem Hot Jazz der frühen 30er Jahre, dem Bums der Balkanmelodien und der Dramatik des Blues.
Botticelli Baby klingt dennoch nicht nach einer Neuauflage alter Zeiten, staubig oder nach einer öligen Jazzband. Botticelli Baby reißt die Hütten ab nach Manier des 21. Jahrhunderts. Sie liefern eine rotzige und professionelle Show oder wie es Londoner Mitstreiter des Musikbusiness einmal treffend formulierten „IT`S FUCKING QUALITY“.

Das Konzert findet im Rahmen von Stranger Funk w/ El Bufonk, Madkab, Soulix & B Soulski statt!

Mit „Double Parade“ knüpft Markus Holkko aka Linear John nahtlos an sein Debut Album „Hits With A Twist“ aus dem Jahr 2016 an. Geheimnisvoll und undefinierbar kommt auch sein neues Pop-Jazz Meisterwerk daher; ist das noch Popmusik ? Ja, weil das Album absolut massentauglich ist. Vielleicht aber auch nicht, weil es sich in keine Schublade stecken lässt. Mal klingt es nach John Coltrane, dann nach Kraftwerk. Während man sich im Latin-Feel noch an Antônio Carlos Jobim erinnert, setzt ein Horn-Solo á la Richard Wagner ein. Doch trotz dieser Vielfalt handelt es sich nicht um eine willkürliche Anreihung von Hommagen: der Finne versteht es, seine Nummern harmonisch und melodisch so eindringlich zu gestalten, dass man unweigerlich auch beginnt, den Groove zu fühlen. Und immer wenn sich der Zuhörer in die Unaufmerksamkeit zurückzulehnen mag, wird er durch neue, überraschende harmonische oder rhythmische Änderungen wieder aktiviert.

Die Schönheit des Übergangs. Das zur Band gewachsene Projekt der in Berlin lebenden und arbeitenden Musiker Douglas Greed und Fabian Kuss spürt in regnerischer Electronica der Schwere von Bruch und Ende nach. Es zelebriert die in jedem Wandel liegenden Energie und die Schönheit des Neubeginns. In cleveren Kompostionen kartografiert das Duo wie nebenbei die in Synthesizer und Drum Machines verborgen liegende Melancholie.Davor und danach katapultieren euch Carribean Thomas und Der Brotfrau in tropische Breitengrade. Carribean Thomas verlötet in seinen Sets schräg-schöne Exotica-Sounds. Das klingt immer ein wenig nach einem Hafengeburtstag irgendwo in der Karibik. Toll!

Originally from Vienna, ANT ANTIC are among the most interesting artists in electronic music emerging from Austria at the moment.

In 2014, just before finishing her Bachelor degree in Jazz, J.Lamotta すずめ (speak: Jay Lamotta Suzume) decided to relocate to Berlin – instead of New York – where she was supposed to finish her studies. Here, she found her passion for soul and hip-hop through the sounds of Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield and J Dilla. In December 2017 she released her debut album „Conscious Tree“ via Jakarta Records, mixing various influences for a laidback, unique sound.

Night Travel on a Blanket Show exists since two years already, first in the form of a Radio Show (since a year on LYL Radio), and then physically as an event series taking place in Neukölln, between the Shrippe Hawaï and the Klunkerkranich. The idea behind this series is to offer to the listeners musical narrations related to books and space-time to lie down, meditate and sometimes, even dance.

For this edition, the Night Travel on a Blanket Show is pleased to invite Paul Arámbula for a live show of weird synth-pop full of romances. As well expected are Welia and Misonica, two djanes filled of magic and dreams, imported from Vienna. Welia offered two months ago a one hour of travel for the radio show. Misonica is one of the figure behind the collective named femdex, supporting and promoting female artists.
Low Bat, running the Night Travel, will be accompanied by one of his favorite local thugs, Frans Ambient, running the label Kashual Plastik.

The Spiritczualic Enhancement Orchestra (aka SEO & CZUAL) is a recently founded musical ensemble rooted in the ‘Spiritczualic’ occurrence – when spirit and ritual are fused. They create “prophet-able”, unexpected and improvised live concerts emphasizing ceremonial transcendence. Every session features surprise guest-musicians from the reality-defying Outernational Artist Association.

Embarking upon a psycho-magical exploration, guided by “star allegiance”, the ensemble was “Self-Established by Higher Sources”, as they phrase it, on Christmas 2017. The founding duo – drummer Nicolas Sheikoleslami and poly-keyboardist Omri Shmulewitz – came together with the others by cosmic intervention, meeting for the first time while squatting an ancient Talmudic building – making it completely acoustic and noise-proof. There, they operate the short-lived yet powerful Spiritczualic Enhancement Center, Dangerousalem. Then, following government intervention, they embarked on their “Discourse With a Hermit” tour – visiting four epicenters of the synchronistic zeitgeist: Hamburg’s Pudel, Prague’s Punctum, Vienna’s Rhiz and Berlin’s Arkaoda. Every concert included the addition of a new, local bass player – drawn into their transmutative allure. Often, they met for the first time on stage.

The ensemble’s remarkable artist is Dima Rabik, creator of the original works which also contribute their names to the events and compilations.

The CZUALs envision a universalizing concept of organic-spirituality —
which defines itself in the manifest unfolding.

The Yaybahar is an acoustic instrument – built and developed by Görkem Şen – which is using the phenomena of resonance the create synthesizer like, spacious, alien sounds that are deeply reverberating though the air. The video of the „Yaybahar“ went viral on the internet and left people stunned by the possibilities of acoustic sound creation.

Ek Minute Baba ist ein Quintett aus Hamburg, das sich unter der Selbstbezeichnung „Raga´n´Roll“ zusammengefunden hat, um psychedelische, progressive und tanzbare Sounds zu einer einzigartigen Mischung zu verschmelzen. Zusätzlich zu Gitarre, Bass und Schlagzeug fließen mit Sitar und Tabla indische Instrumente in das Gesamtkunstwerk Ek Minute Baba ein. Live klingt das Ganze dann manchmal nach Sitar-Gott Ravi Shankar, dann wieder nach John Coltrane. In jedem Fall aber maximal vielseitig und jamorientiert. Falko Teichmann und Eli Pavel lassen davor und danach passgenaue Sounds von der Leine. Traumschön!

Nach mittlerweile zwei Soloalben hat Jorge da Rocha sich selbst gefunden. Der portugiesische Musiker kombiniert akustische Double Bass-Sounds mit seiner warmen Stimme und poetischen Texten. Jorge durchbricht die Grenzen zwischen Jazz, World Music, elektronischen Sprenkeln und klassischem Songwriting. Sein einzigartiges Musikverständnis speist sich aus einer klassischen Ausbildung und einem gefühlsbetonten Zugang zu Musik. So entsteht ein furioser musikalischer Dialog, der sich auf der Bühne zu einem expressiven Spektakel entfaltet. Davor und danach spielen Lotte Ahoi&Gäste entschleunigte Tanzmusik. Herrlich!

August In 2017, Taishi Nagasaka (Cozmik Onion Express,Fat White Family,DJ ONONiiONIONIION) started to write some songs for Fat White Family,which they were not used.But he really liked the tracks and didnt want to waste them,then he invited his close friend,Max Bauer from Isolation Berlin to make more.And berlin based Pino techer Miho joined on Drums,and Sachiko joined on Bass.Now Max left the band for his main band and Italian Sound Engineer Diego Ferri joined on guitar and key. Music are Psych Japanese Schlager in Denim.

Since four years Berlin Sessions X Klunkerkranich tries to highlight some of the best music the Berlin indie scene has to offer, while always broadening the boundaries of the so-called „Indie“-genre. This month, we’ve invited two talented acts, who evince exactly this: MADANII will showcase her unique blend of Electronics with the Persian music world, and Máni Orrason will play his Indie-Folk in a full band setup.

MADANII
Berlin-based MADANII combines elements from Pop, Electronic and RnB accented by sounds from the Persian music world, resulting in songs often dealing with political and socio-critical topics that arise from her background and surrounding world. Her first EP „DO I LOOK DANGEROUS 2 U“, which will be released later this year, uniquely blends Persian and electronic elements, combined with Alternative Pop tunes a la BANKS and influences from artists in the likes of SEVDALIZA and FKA Twigs.

Máni Orrason
As a 16-year-old, Máni Orrason released his first Hit: „Fed All My Days“ is a Popfolk-Song who led the talented young man on his first international stages. His debut-album „Repeating Patterns“ and the follow-up EP „Wake Me Up“ cemented the way and the young Songwriter and Multiinstrumentalist was praised all over. His current album „I Woke Up Waiting“ is a personal story, filled with honest and relatable little anecdotes, which acts as a mental inventory. Thanks to his Songwriting talent, the songs are not lugubrious or lethargic, but rather activating and lively, with smart lyrics that take a look on the more humorous side of life.

Coals is young duo from Poland under the leadership of Katarzyna Kowalczyk and Łukasz Rozmysłowski. The name of the band is connected with the region they come from – Silesia which is famous for coal mines. They started playing music in September 2014. They quickly made theirselves liked by listeners due to the home-recorded songs they published on the Internet. An exclusive British magazine The Quietus about Coals: „The somewhat creamy quality of Coals‘ music is an experience akin to being wrapped up in cotton wool and sailing away on ebb tides of unperturbed bliss. It could well be down to the silky smooth voice of vocalist Katarzyna Kowalczyk or possibly the multi-instrumentation of Łukasz Rozmysłowski but the net result is gorgeously lush music that increases the anticipation of their yet-to-be released debut album.“ and American Under the Radar magazine about them:“Coals mix in heavy helping of hip-hop beats, creating a hypnotic mix between the dirty club and darkened city streets.“ . Coals are inspired by artists such as Spooky Black, Soap&Skin,Dean Blunt and Sigur Ros. The band have played quite a lot of concerts in Poland and abroad (Iceland Airwaves, Positivus Festival, Reeperbahn Festival, LOFTAS, Tune In Tel Aviv, BUSH Budapest) and they have the support of Icelandic bands (Rokkurro, Myrra Ros) to their credit. They performed on 10thedition of Off Festival which is one of the most important music festivals in the world according to Pitchfork. They also played for popular American radio station KEXP (twice, during the Off Festival and Airwaves)and their composition „Weightless” was „KEXP Song of the day” in September of 2015. They recently recorded a song called “Rave03’”which is the first single from an upcoming album (release sometime in 2017) about childhood.

Blue Desert is Israel’s new and upcoming style, growing from the culture mixed soil. Yossi Fine and Ben Aylon’s innovative playing and virtuosity are a big part of their live show, presenting Hypnotic Beats and Melodies to put you in a Trance.

Their music derives its inspiration from Afro-Arab parties and weddings, Dabke’s and traditional ceremonies, desert Blues and Universal grooves.

People from diverse ethnicities come together on the dance floor.

In this project Grammy nominated Yossi Fine (cooperation with Dawid Bowie, Lou Reed..) presents Ben Aylon, who has developed an innovative drumming style that creates a massive sound of an entire tribe of drummers using a custom hybrid drum set he built from Senegalese and modern drums.

He started his monthly 60-80s Japanese Pop Music Event / PopUp Record shop in late 2017 n Berlin for people to be interested in something different comfortably,,,, especially to enjoy himself. His Japanese events are held 2 times a month at bars in Berlin,especially Oblomov and IPA bar (regular) in Neukoelln, Berlin since Dec 2017, the Pure Japanese nights and mixture night between Japan and another country (ex,Indonesia,Turkey,Germany,Greece,Korea etc) It earned lots of interests from people,, Now he also has a night Japanese Food & Japanese Music at the new turkish venue calle Arkaoda.

He has been through world music experimental,rock and children music etc. He is also an instrument player, he plays the bass in Fat White Family (UK), and in Berlin he has 2 of his ownbands, Cozmik Onion Express (Analog Drum Trigger) and with Max from Isolaton Berlin, Jaguar NoMe (Japanese Psych Pop & Dance Music for old people). He has collaborated/played with John Cale (Velvet Underground), Iggor Cavalera (sepultura), Isolation Berlin, Bo Ningen, Flamingods,Group A, Camera, Sclupture, Hibiki Ichikawa (Japanese Traditional Instrument Shamisen player) and others.

<DJ Tommi> (Group A)
Japanese experimental electronic duo group A – Tommi Tokyo (synthesizers, drum machines and vocals) and Sayaka Botanic (violin and sampler) – started as a performing arts experimental noise trio in early 2012 in Tokyo with a third member, but soon became more focusing on sound and live visuals. The duo have put forth three self-produced/released albums, one of which has been released on vinyl by Mecanica Records, and are readying a new 12&quot; single coming out on Mannequin Records in autumn 2017. group A’s approach to DJing is similar to how they make music; creating and mixing completely different sounds and juxtaposing Tommi and Sayaka’s contrasting tastes. Their unique palette of sounds combines industrial/minimal synth/rhythmic noise with contemporary classical music and soundtracks from 60-80’s films.
